How to make a sundial

Today the experiment I did?
The experiment I did was to make a sundial and do a sisomo (sight, sound, motion)

What is a sundial is?
A sundial is a instrument that shows the time when the sun is shining. In the olden day when digital and analog clocks didn't exist they needed something to tell them the time.

Here is my video on how to make a sundial:

What happened when I tested my sundial?

Well it almost showed accurate time but it showed the correct hour.

Reflection of the activity. What did you enjoy/learn?

I really enjoyed doing the activity and I learnt a lot about how a sundial works. Now I know exactly how a sundial works

How to build a super column

What was today's experiment?
Today's Experiment was to build a super column and to do a sisomo (sight sound motion) on how to build it.

What is a super column?
Today I built three super columns and one of them was a flat sheet of paper the other one was circular and  the third was a triangle. I was trying to find out which of them had the most compressive strength.

Here are my videos on how to build a super column:

What happened when I tested my super columns power?

Well when I tested my two flat sheets of paper it collapsed without even holding it up for a second.

When I tested my two circular ones they held the rock for very short time and then collapsed, but it still worked better than the first sheets of paper.

Then I tested my triangular pillars they held up the rock for very long and still it didn't collapse.

Reflection of the activity. What did you enjoy/learn?

I learnt that triangular pillars were the strongest.

How to make a Xylophone

Today the activity I did was:

To build a xylophone and do a Sisomo ( sight, sound, motion) how to make it.

A Xylophone is:

A xylophone is a musical instrument. Most xylophones are made from various metals and woods. In xylophones there are strips of varying lengths arranged in a row from the smallest strip to the biggest strip. Because of them being different lengths, they produce different kind of musical sounds.

Here is my video on how to make a Xylophone:

What happened when I tested my xylophone:

Well it was very successful and I could hear the different sounds.

Reflection of the activity. What I enjoyed/learnt:

So far I have learnt quite a lot about how a xylophone works.

I enjoyed doing this activity very much.

Questions

Today I created a list of questions from the text that we were reading.(Gardening in the Living Room by Sophie Fern.

1 Why do you think that the strange structure was put next to there vegetable garden?
It will help them grow the vegetables that need certain temperatures.

2 How do you think the green house is going to help the grow a bigger variety of vegetables?
There are some vegetables that need hot not cold air or cold not hot air.

3 What are the five main things that a plant needs to grow?Light,Warmth,Water,Air and Nutrients.

4 Do all vegetables grow in the same type of climate?
No all of the types of plants require different climates.

5 What is the purpose of the greenhouse?
Is to provide warmth or cool air to specific plants.

6 What happens if a plant gets overcooked?
If a plant gets to hot it will struggle to survive and most likely die.

7 Why is the temp important in the life of a plant?
High temperatures affect plant growth in numerous ways. The most obvious are the effects of heat on photosynthesis

8 Do you think that gardens will very important in the future?
Yes because it will grow plants and plants are very important.

Maths

Today we used multi link cubes to make 3D shapes and draw the font, back, left and right side views.

Maths

Today we looked at different view points of 3D shapes.
I constructed these 3D shapes after looking at the drawings.

Police information report.

                                                                      Police

New Zealand Police is an important member of the community.
It seeks to prevent crime and crashes, improve public safety,
detect and bring offenders to account, and maintain law and order.

Police officers see the best and the worst of life. Their work also
includes such things as preventing crime, searching for missing
persons, dealing with sudden deaths, identifying lost property,
and helping victims of road crashes.

In some big car crashes the police can’t do all of the work so
sometimes the paramedics and the firefighters are called. You
might be wondering what the firefighters and paramedics do.

Well if the fuel tank/s of the cars/car have been hit and fuel and
oil is leaking out, there is an extremely high chance of a big fire.
And that is where the firefighters can help the police.

In-car crashes, some victims can be injured or in some cases
dead, the paramedics come to retrieve them and take them to
the hospital and try to recover them.

The NZ police are an extremely important part of the NZ
community because they keep the country very safe indeed.

Te reo

Today I created a auto draw on the five basic parts of a plant in Te reo.
